David Blumenthal est un chercheur en judaïsme enseignant à l'Université Emory à Atlanta. Il a obtenu son doctorat ès lettres à l'Université de Columbia. Il a également étudié à l'Université hébraïque de Jérusalem ainsi qu'à l'Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes à Paris. Il est spécialisé dans la mystique juive, le judaïsme médiévale et la Shoah.
